Frequently asked questions (FAQs) regarding the IELTS General Training test

It assesses the English language skills of candidates who plan to work or migrate to an English-speaking country. It focuses on practical, everyday English skills.

It is suitable for those who are planning to apply for vocational training, work experience, or secondary education in English-speaking countries.

The test consists of four sections: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. The Listening, Reading, and Writing sections are completed on the same day, while the Speaking test may be scheduled on a different day.

The Listening test lasts approximately 30 minutes, followed by 10 minutes to transfer your answers to the answer sheet.

The test includes a variety of recordings, such as conversations, monologues, and lectures.

It consists of three sections with a total of 40 questions. The texts are taken from real-life sources, such as advertisements, newspapers, and job descriptions.

Yes, the Academic Reading test contains texts suited for an academic context, while the General Training Reading test includes materials that are more relevant to daily life and workplace situations.

The Writing test includes two tasks: Task 1 requires candidates to write a letter (formal, semi-formal, or informal), while Task 2 involves writing an essay responding to a point of view, argument, or problem.

The Speaking test lasts about 11-14 minutes and is conducted in a face-to-face interview format with an examiner.

The test includes three parts: an introduction and interview, a long turn where the candidate speaks on a given topic, and a discussion related to the topic.

Each section is scored out of 9, and the overall band score is the average of the four sections, rounded to the nearest half band.

A good score depends on the requirements of the institution or organization you are applying to. Generally, a score of 6.5 or higher is considered a good score for most purposes.
